Expert acting is the hallmark of this wrenching father-daughter face-off disguised as a road picture. Kaisa (Lena Headey) is a successful, hard-living Scottish lawyer whose rise at a high-powered London firm is interrupted by a plea from her hospitalized mother (Charlotte Rampling) in Aberdeen. Faced with her own mortality, Mom wants to see Kaisa's estranged, alcoholic Norwegian father (Stellan Skarsgard of "Breaking the Waves"), so the younger woman sets off to find drunk Dad in Oslo and bring him back to Scotland. Kaisa tries her best to reunite her parents, but, confronted by a pathological boozer, missed plane flight, flat tire, random thugs and the most vigorous bout of projectile vomiting since "The Exorcist," she begins to believe that it's a lost cause. Furthermore, her career could be in jeopardy because of her unexpected absence. With Ian Hart ("Liam") as a friendly trucker who could be another obstacle in Kaisa's way or her salvation. A painful trip, though the travelers keep you engrossed.
