"Catch Me If You Can" is that rarity: a light-as-air comic-romp-with-a-heart from director Steven Spielberg. It might be Spielberg's most jovial, purely enjoyable film since his Indiana Jones trilogy. In any case, "Catch Me If You Can," a lively caper flick inspired by the real-life exploits of teenage con artist Frank Abagnale in the 1960s, is an absolute pleasure to watch and a wonderful vehicle for the talents of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. DiCaprio, in a career slump since "Titanic," is ideal for the role of Frank, a quiet high-school student distraught over his father's business setbacks and his mother's disaffection from the family. (Christopher Walken and Nathalie Baye play Frank's parents.) On a whim, the resourceful Frank reinvents himself, passing as a doctor, lawyer and airline pilot and forging millions of dollars in checks, all before his 21st birthday. But he attracts the attention of FBI fraud expert Carl Hanratty (Hanks). Soon, the indefatigable agent is on Frank's tail. Amid '60s period detail, DiCaprio is all charm and swagger as Frank, and Hanks is wryly amusing in his frustration and dogged determination as Hanratty.
